Settled in Spain
I can't imagine there was a happier man in Valencia around noon local time today Thursday than yours truly, who although exhausted physically and emotionally, closed the door behind him in his new home until this whole Spanish adventure ends, currently scheduled for April. Home is Calle Alta 36, Puerta 5, if you must know. The day started early as I hoofed for half an hour to the offices of Dasha Living for orientation, taxied to the new place just to get the lay of the land, walked back to the first interim apartment to load my stuff to the lobby, hailed a cab and then schlepped 5 or 6 bags of various sizes up to the new digs, and yes, there is a lift thank god. Third floor penthouse with an outdoor rooftop deck about as big as the apartment itself. My suite, to coin a phrase, is sweet indeed. I promised myself a nice place to live while in school and boy, did I deliver!
I must share what I have come to realize - that landing finally in my long-term place was a bigger deal psychologically/emotionally than I allowed myself to know. There's a certain sense of grounded-ness, if you will, knowing that I'm not moving anywhere else while here in Valencia - this here is my home. Everything is now more real than ever.
And it's a nice little apartment, all up to date, clean and shiny but also comfy. Separate bedroom, en suite bath, tons of storage (everything is already unpacked and stowed), fully equipped kitchen, dining/living combo (all the rage), tons of floor to ceiling windows and natural light, and an open stairway with sisal handrail up to the desk/workplace, the washer/dryer combo and the deck...oh that deck...cannot wait for the warmer weather when I'll bring up a cup of cafe' con leche and study my vocabulary words in the Valencian sunshine which happens 300 days a year, by the way.
Tomorrow Friday, I go to the school (a 5 minute walk) to pay my tuition and then explore my new neighborhood...but first, rest. It's been a day.
Sounds awesome and exhausting. Can you share pics? Also, be nice to the other kids at school/-)
